After The Rain [Ivy and Julian, PG]

The grass was wet, and the ground was muddy. Droplets of water still fell from branches onto unwary passer-bys that walked under them Still, that didn't seem to deter the figure that sat under one of the shady trees reading, a small blanket spread out beneath her. The girl had midnight black hair that had been woven into a neat plait that stopped just below her shoulder blades, though a few strands did escape to fall in front of her eyes which she tucked back behind her ears.

Ivy was quite absorbed in the book she was reading, her eyes flickering between the pages and her lips silently mouthing thr words. For some reason, earlier this day, Ivy found herself itching to be out of the school's walls and in the fresh air. So she had gathered her book and her blanket and found a spot out here to settle down.

Julian walked over to the beautiful girl, and smiled. "Whatcha reading?" he asked. He was curious, only because he liked reading too. He liked getting suggestions of different books to pick up. Although, the school's library was being rebuilt, so the girl must've brought the book from home, or got it at Whirlwind's Market.

Ivy didn't hear the boy come up to her, in all honesty. So when he spoke the girl jumped slightly in her spot, and she dropped her book on the lap. "O..oh," Ivy stammered, trying to smile without looking as awkward as she felt. He must have been one of the new students around here, for she hadn't seen him around before. "Just a book." Ivy managed to get out, rather vaguely. She held up her book, revealing the title to be James Patterson's Along Came a Spider.

Julian nodded and smiled. He then sat across from her. She seemed a little shy. Maybe a little tense. Was it him? Did he do something? Julian hoped not. "Do you like reading?" he asked.

Would I be reading if I didn't? Ivy thought- almost sarcastically, as she mentally shook her head. Instead, Ivy nodded silently, marking her page by folding the corner and setting it down on her lap. It would be rather rude to start reading while he was still here, wouldn't it? "Do you?" She finally asked, after clearing her throat. It would be embarrassing if her voice came out all scratchy and all- A whole day of reading and not talking to do that to your voice.
